Do eye stye drops work? I’m doing some research on this and to tell the truth, it is not going that well in favor for stye drops to heal a stye, though temporary relief is possible.  Not talking about any prescription medication that needs a doctor’s authorization to purchase. I’m interested more, in the over the counter, drug store variety type that can be purchased by anyone for a few bucks.

My Interest in finding, Do eye stye drops work?

First thing first, I had to define my question a little bit better to find an suitable answer.  My first thought, “Do they work?”  What is the meaning of “work?”  Should this be defined as relief? Maybe just temporary pain relief, or better yet, best case senero  to heal a stye? What is the end users goal? I believe most folks wanting to know How to treat a stye, may be thinking eye drops.  I’m just not so sure, maybe many are paying for an illusion of hope, might be more like it.

Starting the search in Google with a simple phrase “eye stye drops,”  I quickly realized, Big Mistake.  Way too many affiliate type sites and biased one way opinions on their choice of product promotion.

Next stop Amazon, figured, oh yeah, they will have a big collection of products to look over.  Typed in my search query again, bam!  More like ping, not bam, surprisingly such few over the counter products.  One brand of drops for styes and the other was a gooey sauve.  I was expecting at least a few pages of eye drops to choose from, unfortunately not…..then again, maybe this is a good thing. Though already confirming my suspicion of how well these work, just by the simple fact of basically one brand to choose from.

So Amazon is advertising on their website just one liquid eye drop product. An over the counter nonprescription “stye relief drops” that actually have these words printed on its labeling.

Similasan Stye Eye Relief   (by Similasan)

First thing that stood out to me was the lack of reviews by those that have made the purchase. Right now as I’m writing this, there are just six (6) customer write-ins, surprised?   Within these limited reviews, users basically stating that the cheapest price is on Amazon, Ok that is good to know.  Another buyer stated, it worked fine, but a hot compress was also needed. Hmmm, a hot compress, you don’t say…but wouldn’t a hot wet compress just wash it away? I would think so.  Not looking good for a positive answer to “Do eye stye drops work?

Nothing in these reviews were impressive to say the least. Did they trigger any kind of response in me to go out and buy the product?  No not really, sadly to say.

Do eye drops work? | Depends on your definition of “work” is

Now, it was time to dig a bit deeper ( I think going any further is just wasting time, but…) and see, what is in this “Similasan Stye Eye Relief” drops that are worth paying for.

To be fair, these drops are not intended for a stye in eye cure.  This statement is on the products website, so there is no “bait and switch” funny stuff going on here.  This product is being marketed for “Relief.”

This is where folks need to be cautious. If purchasing, is it for relief or cure? Big difference between the meaning of these words, sometimes many might overlap these meanings to suit one’s needs.  Doing so usually ends in disappointment.

Ok, so these are not gonna cure, but what is in it to provide soothing comfort?

In the products description, its uses is for;

  • Redness
  • Burning
  • Dryness
  • Tearing
To me this sounds like a typical allergy relief product.  Could an allergy pill work just as well?
I don’t want to put this product down, as I have never tried it myself or know anyone who has.  I want to try and find reasons for it, and where it may come in handy for those suffering with an eye stye.
My thoughts for its use that may be beneficial;
  • Temporary relief away from the home, when one can’t apply any of the home care methods listed here.
That’s it….all I can think of at the moment….
If you have tried any such products, Do eye stye drops work? I would like to hear what you have to report, good or bad.
